Self-Portrait
Since I was young, I remember that my biggest passion was
drawing and beside that spending my time at one of my favourite places which
was my father’s work. He sells building materials and I always was so
interested to use some of them. Using cement, wood, stones and whatever I could
find, I used to build little houses and casttles which was my favorite thing.
As time passed, my passion was leading me more towards architecture.
Before I started my university I knew that the way I was
seeing things would change, but not this much. Before I used to pass on the
streets and that was all. Now I'm like, oh look that’s a nice building, or this
one should have been better. Moreover, when I used to travel, my main intention
was just to see the most popular spots of the city. Now my main purpose is
architecture. To see and experience the buildings and structures that have
changed the way that we think or act is very interesting to me. I can't escape
architecture even when I watch a movie. To me now everything is architecture.
In addition, architecture is a field that includes so many
other ones. The best motivation I find into myself is how just one building or
a structure can change the life of so many people. What we build does not only
affect one person but a group of people, a community, sometimes the entire
nation. Also when we think about them, we should not focus only in one category
or type of people but we should design structures that are easily experienced
by everybody. In this way we bring people together, teach them that embracing
the differences can lead to great things and can affect in creating a better
and a happier environment.
However “the people” is not the only category that we should
focus on before we create a structure. We should not leave behind the animals,
the nature and all the living things. We have the power as architects, to
create environments in which every living creature can live happily in peace.
Architecture is always changing. In years it has constantly
changed due to different reasons. Now the “reason” is technology. This change
is developing so fast. Technology has made the world look so small.
Architecture is now embracing this fact. With the technology we are creating
multifunctional and flexible spaces. With the new softwares , and technology,
it seems that there are no limitis when it comes to creating new forms and
spaces.
Sometimes I think that our work as architects is like a
puzzle game. We need to gather all the information, split it into small pieces
and in the end to create the final form by putting every piece in the right
spot.
Everything that we build ends up building us.
